Marketing and Management at
Talisman Magazine and Website

My first role at the WKU Talisman, a student-run lifestyle magazine and website, was as a staff photographer. After working on the photo staff and taking photos for feature stories and event coverage, I was promoted to the Web-Visuals Co-editor role. In this role, I edited all of the visuals for the Talisman website content and managed a staff of creatives. Then I became the Marketing Manager where I oversaw all of the publication's marketing efforts. I am currently the Co-Executive Editor of the Talisman where I oversee all creative work and content development for both the print magazine and website.

Created Social Media Style Guide
Our goals for the Talisman in Fall 2023 included having increased professionalism and brand recognition. To reach these goals, we decided to standardize our social media style, so that it has a cleaner and more recognizable look. The style is inspired by popular news networks' social media style, such as The Washington Post and the Lexington Herald-Leader.
Analytics
In order to monitor our audience engagement and performance on social media, one of my staff members and I work on creating bi-weekly analytics reports to relay to our editorial board what content performs well and what does not
Distribution Day and Event Planning
The Talisman has a few events per semester. The first one is our Portrait Day and Zine Distribution event. We set up a backdrop and lighting in the student union and take professional headshots or fun photos of students. This allows us to grow connections with our audience, during this event we distribute our Zine publication. Then we have our main distribution day where we hand out our latest issue of our magazine around campus. There are also a few small events we have throughout the semester to hear from our audience.
Creation of Zine No. 03 & 04
Working closely with our Design Editor, Amelia Curry, we create a 12 page Zine once a semester. A Zine is a mini magazine that we create to help generate excitement for our magazine that comes about one to two months later. The Zine features a poem, playlist, recipe, collages, a sneak peek at the next magazine issue, and interactive pages.
My design work for the Talisman:
Talisman Merchandise
I designed T-shirts and sweatshirts for the Talisman publication staff, creating apparel that represents our team’s identity. This showcased who we are during distribution days and events.
Magazine Release Countdowns
The first five designs are social media countdown posts for Talisman Issue 16, "Pulse," featuring images from the stories for a sneak peek. I incorporated a heart monitor designs to reflect the magazine's theme. The second set showcases Talisman Issue 15, "Dimension," using photos from the magazine with dimensional numbers to showcase the theme.
